Consumer Reports names the 5 most reliable cars for 2022

When buying a new car, few things matter more than reliability. Buying a new car is an investment. The investment is only as good as the value of owning the car. Take the Toyota Tacoma, for example. The 20-year-old models still sell for a price close to what people paid for them new. Since they are not uncommon, the only reason for this retention of value is reliability. Consumer Reports just released its list of the most reliable cars of 2022. What do you think made the list?

The 2022 Lexus GX is the most reliable new car

Although Lexus is a Toyota brand, it’s still weird to see the Lexus GX at number one instead of the Tacoma or something like that. The Lexus GX isn’t far off, but still, it looks a bit odd. No matter which you choose, Consumer Reports named the 2022 Lexus GX the most reliable SUV on the market. Not only is it the most reliable SUV; it’s also more reliable than any other vehicle, period.

How reliable is the Kia Niro Electric 2022?

Kia Niro PHEV 2022 | KIA

According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Kia Niro Electric crossover is the second most reliable vehicle for this model year. It’s nice to see not just a Kia on the list but an electric one, no less.

The Kia Niro EV isn’t just reliable; he scored beautifully at all levels. CR gave it a score of 88/100, making it the highest rated electric vehicle.

The Toyota Prius Prime is better than we want it to be

A 2022 Toyota Prius Prime | Toyota

It’s true. The 2022 Toyota Prius Prime ranks third for reliability. Look, at the risk of violating my journalistic integrity, there’s nothing to like about the Toyota Prius Prime except the facts. The Prius Prime adds plug-in hybrid capability to what is already the most popular hybrid made to date.

I find nothing to like despite the Prius Prime’s exceptional fuel efficiency, affordability and unwavering reliability. Either way, the Toyota Prius Prime is undeniably efficient and rugged.

Really, another Toyota Prius?

No, we didn’t make a mistake. Positions three and four are both held by the Toyota Prius. While the third most reliable car on Consumer Reports’ list is the Prius Prime, the fourth belongs to the regular 2022 Toyota Prius. Nobody said you had to like it, but the Toyota Prius is an extremely solid platform.

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 is incredibly reliable

You really don’t expect to see an American car on the most reliable car list. Strange as it may sound, Consumer Reports named the 2022 Cadillac XT5 the fifth most reliable car.

I don’t know if it’s the fact that Cadillac is an American brand or it’s a luxury brand, but no part of the Cadillac brand supports the idea that they make reliable cars. It’s just not part of the ethos. Luxury companies are a bit like that, in general. Regardless of how it strikes us, Consumer Reports’ testing and research proves the XT5 to be a reliable car – more reliable than most, in fact.

Is reliability the most important aspect of a car?

Reliability is somewhat relative. If you’re looking for a weekend toy or just a fun car, reliability might not matter to you. Shit, take that Jaguar and go. However, reliability is probably much more important if you need a daily driver or something to transport a family.

Whenever you go on a car buying trip, remember to research as much as possible. Finding a reliable car will definitely pay off in the long run.
