Kamloops filmmakers create non-profit organization to encourage industry growth | infonews

A new film company is focused on creating opportunities for interior filmmakers.

The YKA Film Society is a non-profit organization created by a group of local filmmakers and led by the Boisclair family, to encourage the growth of the film industry in the region, according to the non-profit organization’s press release. lucrative.

“After filming in the region for a few years, we recognized the need for training and opportunities for filmmakers in the region. As a group, we decided to help facilitate by opening our own nonprofit,” said Cjay Boisclair, owner and producer of Askem Productions, a Kamloops film production company.

The YKA Film Society will work with various individuals and organizations to bring training to Kamloops to help the industry grow and become self-sufficient.

“The goal is to eventually have an all-local crew, production offices, equipment vendors and more,” Kayden Boisclair, owner and producer of Saint Clair Productions, said in the release. “One day, our current efforts will be rewarded with Kamloops becoming a filming mecca.”

The group has just opened a new office that is in need of renovations and is looking for donations of building materials like drywall, insulation, paint, studs and skilled labor to put the building in working order, as well as items such as office furniture and kitchen supplies.
