Actor Michael Sheen has had the kind of career some actors can only dream of, and in a recent interview, the BAFTA, Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG nominated star revealed that he would like to transform into a “social enterprise. , a for-profit non-actor “and has pledged to devote the majority of his future acting income to promoting social causes. Appeared in all possible genres, from the drama of Frost / Nixon, to the The Twilight Saga, at Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland and many roles on television, Sheen is one of those actors that everyone has seen in something, even if they don’t know it, and he’s also well known as one of the most genuine people working in the business so the statement doesn’t seem to be too out of character.
Speaking to UK The big problem in their last issue released on Sunday, Sheen spoke about how he thinks he’s achieved a position in his career that allows him to get people to listen to him and gives him the opportunity to give back for all the times others l ‘have helped in the past. He told the publication:
“I realized over the last few years that I wanted to be one of those people who help others like so many people have helped me. I don’t want to just be someone who enjoys the fruits of what other people have done, then pull the drawbridge and go, well, it’s okay Jack, I had a great time. I’m at a point in my life and career where I have a window of opportunity that will probably never be so good again. I can bring people into a room, I can open doors. I don’t want to look back and think, I could have done something with this platform. I could have done something with this money.
Sheen went on to explain how the experience of working in a National Theater Wales production of Passion in 2011 had a huge impact on him and showed him how much a little help can be. He explained: “This project involved the whole city and it was a big wake-up call for me. I got to know people and organizations in my hometown that I didn’t know existed. Small groups that were trying to help young caregivers, who had just enough funds to make a little difference in a child’s life by having one night a week where they could go out and go bowling or watch a movie and just to be a child.
A few months later, Sheen recalled that he had returned to his hometown to find that much needed funding was no longer provided. “This stuff doesn’t make the headlines, but it makes a huge difference in the lives of children. I realized that the difference between this child’s life being a little better or not was ultimately a small amount of funding. And I wanted to help these people. I didn’t just want to be a patron or a supporting voice, I actually wanted to do more than that. That’s when I thought I should go back to live in Wales.
Sheen helped organize the 2019 Homeless World Cup in Cardiff which provided another reality check on how little money was being provided for some causes desperately in need of funding as the same was on its way to be closed. “Suddenly, with little time to do, there was no more money. I had to make a decision – I could walk away from it and it wouldn’t happen. And all these people from all over the world who were counting on coming to have this amazing experience, maybe a life changing experience, wouldn’t have it, ”he said. “I thought, I’m not going to let that happen. So I put all my money to continue.
He went on to reveal how he sold his homes in Wales and the United States to make sure the event could take place. “It was scary and incredibly stressful. And I’m going to pay for this for a long time, but when I got out the other side I realized that I can do that sort of thing and, if I can keep making money, it’s not okay with me. ruin. There was something pretty liberating about going, okay, I’m going to put big sums of money into this or that, because I’m going to be able to win it back.
Sheen recently appeared in the now canceled Fox thriller series Prodigal soncontainment comedy Staging starring David Tennant, and appears in the new Holiday movie Last train for Christmas for Sky Cinema and Now in the UK
