The production of new tanks in the Russian Federation is discontinued due to financial problems and the lack of imported components.
“Russia’s Uralvagonzavod is trying to overcome the crisis caused by the imposed sanctions. Uralvogonzavod (Nizhniy Tagil) is a Russian manufacturer of armored vehicles, primarily the main Russian T-72 tank. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the company has faced many financial problems. Rising interest rates on loans, lack of funds to repay foreign currency loans, rising prices of materials and components (including armored steel) – these and other issues have greatly complicated production of most types of military equipment,” said the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine released on Telegram.
It should be noted that, despite the widely advertised “import substitution campaign”, Russia is unable to continue to produce high-tech weapons independently, without the supply of imported components.
“Therefore, the plant is forced to seek a solution to financial problems, including requiring 100% advance payments under government contracts. The production of new equipment, including the T-90 and T-14 tanks (Armata) is arrested”, informs the Ukrainian intelligence. .
According to data from the General Directorate of Intelligence, an “operational headquarters” was set up in the Uralvagonzavod. Its main task is the repair of military equipment damaged during the war with Ukraine.
As reported, due to inflation and international sanctions, the execution of the military order has stalled in Russia. While the Russian Ministry of Defense insists on price fixing, it only results in losses for a “designated sole executor of the military order”.
